Installation of 4 DOT TCEM 6.0 m³ Double Back-to-Back Climatic Chambers – Stellantis, Poissy (France)

At the Stellantis facility in Poissy, four DOT TCEM 6.0 m³ Double Back-to-Back climatic chambers were installed for the validation of electric powertrain systems under controlled environmental conditions.

The chambers were engineered for dynamic testing of dual electric motors operating in back-to-back configuration, with high thermal dissipation and direct integration with dynamometer benches.

Application Requirements

The project required:

  • Temperature range from −40 °C to +125 °C

  • Thermal gradient up to 4 °C/min

  • Permissible dissipation up to 24 kW

  • Climatic operation with humidity control from 10 % to 95 % RH

  • Climatic operating field between +10 °C and +95 °C

  • Stable temperature control ±0.5 °C over time

  • Structural rigidity for heavy dynamic loads (reference mass 600 kg)

  • Integration with existing test benches and supervision systems

  • Industrial safety compliance for high-power testing environments

Mechanical Architecture

Each TCEM chamber features a dual welded half-shell stainless steel structure (AISI 304), composed of:

  • Lower fixed shell anchored to seismic mass

  • Upper movable shell handled by lifting system

Total insulation thickness of 120 mm mineral wool ensures thermal stability even during high dissipation testing.

The internal volume (2800 × 1800 × 1200 mm) allows full installation of back-to-back motor assemblies with transmission systems.

The reinforced insulated floor supports heavy mechanical loads and is prepared for anchoring to the customer foundation.

Thermal and Climatic Performance

Temperature Mode

  • −40 °C to +125 °C

  • Heating and cooling rate: 4 °C/min

  • Permissible dissipation: 24 kW

  • Temperature stability ±0.5 °C

Climatic Mode

  • +10 °C to +95 °C

  • 10 % to 95 % RH

  • Humidity accuracy ±1 % to ±3 % RH

  • Dew point limits according to design climatogram

Refrigeration and Air Treatment System

Each chamber is equipped with:

  • Two-stage DORIN 65 HP compressor

  • Water-cooled condenser

  • Direct expansion refrigeration circuit

  • Dedicated dehumidification coil

  • Armored electric heaters with safety protection

  • Steam humidification system

The refrigeration system was dimensioned to guarantee stable operation under continuous high dissipation loads.

Control and Supervision

The chambers are managed through the DOT PLC platform with CliMaLogic® software:

  • Up to 50 programs × 20 steps

  • Programmable macro sequences

  • Ethernet supervision

  • Modbus TCP/IP integration

  • Continuous data logging with CSV export

  • Multi-level password management

Project Outcome

The installation of the four TCEM 6.0 m³ Double Back-to-Back chambers enabled Stellantis to:

  • Validate electric powertrain systems under extreme climatic conditions

  • Perform high-dynamic thermal cycles with repeatable gradients

  • Test dual motor assemblies under controlled dissipation

  • Integrate climatic testing seamlessly into existing dynamometer infrastructure

  • Operate safely under industrial compliance standards

The TCEM 6.0 configuration confirms Il Disgelo’s capability to engineer high-power climatic solutions specifically tailored for advanced electric vehicle validation programs.
